Fashion Week San Antonio is a city-wide celebration with events showing the broad spectrum of talent and forward-fashion activities currently brewing around the River City. The schedule offers a variety of social, educational, and fun events. Come mingle with designers and models at hip cocktail parties or try your hand at green designs. Whether you are a student, designer, or fashionista, Fashion Week SA offers a wide range of events that are sure to please.

"Couture Embellishment" Demonstration of various hand embroidery and beading techniques used in the design and production of couture garments.

"Behind the Curtain" Learn what goes into the year-long process of creating The Cutting Edge Fashion Show – from garment design through show production details and final presentation.

"Who was Lila Bath?" Discover the influence that Lila Bath had on the fashion industry and her continued influence in Texas and beyond.

"Use of Gerber Garment Technology" Demonstration of the cutting edge technology utilized by UIW students - digitizing, patternmaking, grading, and marker making.

"Draping Demonstration" Current UIW students will demonstrate draping techniques.

"Fashionable Environments," Demonstration and discussion of the interior design process from idea board to completion.

12:00 - 1:00 pm La Fuerza Unida "Strength United, the Thread of Justice" - Sewing Co-operative

Location: La Fuerza Unida 710 New Laredo Hwy

Fuerza Unida was formed in 1990 when one of the Levi Strauss' factories on the South Side of San Antonio closed, leaving over 1,150 workers without jobs and with unjust severance pay. The majority of the women did not have a high level of education or other job prospects beyond their work at Levi Strauss. As a result of the plant closure, the women organized themselves to demand fair compensation from Levi Strauss, as well as better working conditions for workers in other factories. Tour this valuable local production resource brimming with skilled hands and see a fascinating demonstration.

Location: Historic Sunset Station, 1174 E. Commerce Street

Fashion Group Int'l of San Antonio's award winning fashion show, "Fashion Au Naturale" GoGreen, returns as the gala event for Fashion Week San Antonio 2009. Both designers and students submitted designs using recycled materials to the GOingGREEN runway show. FGI San Antonio will present scholarships and cash awards for several categories, including Best Aesthetic Appeal, and Most Creative Use of Repurposed Material to some of the designers showing their fashions at this event. The evening's festivities will also include a proclamation from the San Antonio Mayor's office and recognition of FGI San Antonio's Trendsetter honorees. The evening culminates with local designers Nilgun Derman of Niche, Angelina Mata Couture, and Adrienne Yunger menswear, showcasing their collections on the runway.
